The Future We Share with Others

Tag: Insights about future thinking and visioning

It is hard to conceive that you'll experience a completely isolated future. You will share the future with many different people, often organized as groups. You are cast in a web of overlapping futures you share with others. For example: people at work, people at church, members of your family, your neighbors, the users of your favorite trails, etc. – you share a future with all these people, and more! Overlapping shared futures complicate our ability to envision and enact the future conditions we want.

Complicated or not, envisioning the future is key if you want to be intentional and successful. It is important to engage the people with whom you will share the future. For a group to fully and sustainably achieve its desired and preferred futures, the people of that group need to build and pursue a shared vision of the futures they will share together.
