The AP Futures Textbook

With kids back in school, new textbooks are floating around my kitchen. The AP US History textbook caught my eye and consumed an hour. While thumbing through the sections of this impressive and interesting textbook, I had the following thought:

It's great that most US high schools and colleges offer History Classes supported by History Departments. As a studiable subject, History is complex, reflective, instructive, and ultra important to knowing who we are, what we've done, and why we do what we do. Luckily, it's challenging to find US high schools colleges that do not have History Classes and Departments.

Perhaps equally important is the Future (or Futures), which is also a studiable subject. Few US high schools and colleges offer Futures classes and fewer support a dedicated Futures Department. Here's is a 2017 review of some post-secondary Futures-oriented programs: http://futureoriented.eu/where-to-learn-futures-studies/.

I think there is real opportunity to do something new in how we approach the Future in US education. There are some great examples in the US and abroad.

It'd be really interesting to see the textbook for an AP Futures class.
